Task #6: "See The Light" by The Hours

While watching the video "See The Light" by The Hours I was immediately drawn into the interesting and very odd images that were on display. I had to watch it a few times before I fully understood what was going on. At last I realized that the video was about a woman that was confined by society seeking her way out before it is too late. She has to " See the light" or find her own path and the music video did an excellent job of showing that.

At first, there was a woman dressed in hospital clothing trapped in a glass case. The glass case is a symbol for this woman's empty feeling. Her being trapped in it represents her being confined to society. The materialistic items symbolizes what society wants her to be verses what she wants to be. The reason why she is in a hospital outfit is because the pressure of society is making her sick, she needs to realize who she truly is before it is too late. When she enters the Cat Scan, that symbolizes her self being analyzed by society. The dead animals that are shown hung like Jesus Christ can symbolize two things. One thing that it could symbolize is the way she feels, mutilated like the dead cows were. Or how she is being judged, just like Jesus Christ was judged before he was nailed to the cross. The imagery is very clear, the pictures are just painted for you. This video was very strange but the meaning was cut across. Society does try to pin point everybody, its up to us to find the light and make our way out.
